Jamnagar is the Indian city containing the world's largest single-site oil refinery complex, operated by Reliance Industries.
The complex is located in Gujarat, on India's western coast. Its first refinery began operations in 1999, and a major expansion was completed in 2008. The site includes two refining units and associated petrochemical, storage, and export facilities.
Jamnagar is designed to process a broad range of crude oils, including relatively heavy and high-sulfur grades. Its coastal location supports imports of crude and exports of refined products. The complex produces fuels such as gasoline and diesel as well as petrochemical feedstocks.
The phrase “largest refinery” can be ambiguous because rankings may compare one refinery unit, a company’s total capacity, or a physically integrated complex. Jamnagar is generally identified as the largest single-site refining complex, rather than simply the largest individual processing train.
