Omaha has hosted Berkshire Hathaway’s annual shareholder meeting since 1973.
The meeting takes place in Omaha, Nebraska, where Berkshire Hathaway is headquartered. It is often nicknamed “Woodstock for Capitalists” because thousands of shareholders attend to hear Warren Buffett and other company leaders discuss investments, business strategy, and the economy.
Berkshire’s roots include a textile business founded in the nineteenth century. Warren Buffett began buying shares in the 1960s and eventually transformed the company into a diversified holding group. Its businesses and investments have included insurance, railroads, utilities, manufacturing, retail, and large stakes in public companies.
The meeting location is not the same as the location of every Berkshire subsidiary. Many businesses in the group operate across the United States and internationally. Omaha identifies the parent company’s headquarters and its famous shareholder gathering.
