Berkshire Hathaway's annual shareholder meeting has traditionally been held in Omaha, Nebraska. The event is often called “Woodstock for Capitalists” because thousands of shareholders travel to hear Warren Buffett and other executives discuss the company.
Omaha became closely associated with Berkshire after Buffett began building his investment partnership there and acquired control of Berkshire Hathaway in the 1960s. The annual meeting grew from a small corporate gathering into a major event featuring shareholder questions, business presentations, and activities involving Berkshire-owned brands.
The meeting’s location is not the reason Berkshire has a large market capitalization. Investors instead value the company’s collection of insurance, railroad, energy, manufacturing, retail, and investment businesses. Berkshire’s headquarters remain in Omaha, reinforcing the city’s connection with the company and Buffett.
