Which circuit hosted the 1957 Pescara Grand Prix, the longest F1 championship circuit?

The 1957 Pescara Grand Prix was held on the Pescara Circuit, the longest circuit ever to host a Formula One World Championship race.

Located near Pescara in Italy’s Abruzzo region, the temporary road course measured about 25.6 kilometres. Its triangular layout used public roads through Pescara, Cappelle sul Tavo, and Montesilvano, combining very long straights with a winding hill section.

The race took place on 18 August 1957 and was the only World Championship event ever staged at Pescara. Stirling Moss won for Vanwall after 18 laps, covering roughly 460 kilometres. Juan Manuel Fangio finished second for Maserati, while Harry Schell completed the podium.

Readers sometimes confuse the Pescara Circuit with the Nürburgring or Spa-Francorchamps, both famous long venues. Those circuits were also exceptionally large, but Pescara’s approximately 25.6-kilometre championship layout was longer. The event entered the calendar after the Belgian and Dutch Grands Prix were cancelled.
