Which Chuck Palahniuk novel did Fincher adapt into a 1999 film?

The story behind the answer

David Fincher adapted Chuck Palahniuk's novel Fight Club into the 1999 film Fight Club.

Palahniuk's novel was first published in 1996 and follows an unnamed narrator whose dissatisfaction with consumer culture leads him into underground fight clubs and an increasingly radical movement. The book's themes include alienation, masculinity, advertising, identity, and the search for meaning in a commercialized society.

Screenwriter Jim Uhls adapted the novel, and Fincher directed the film with Brad Pitt as Tyler Durden and Edward Norton as the unnamed narrator. Helena Bonham Carter plays Marla Singer. The movie streamlined parts of the novel and altered its ending, but retained its central characters, ideas, and major revelation.

Fight Club initially underperformed at the box office and divided critics, but its home-video release helped it develop a major cult following. The other options are also Palahniuk novels: Survivor, Lullaby, and Choke. None was adapted by Fincher into this 1999 film.
