Nvidia became the third company to reach a $3 trillion market capitalization.
Nvidia crossed the $3 trillion threshold during trading on June 5, 2024. The company’s valuation surged as investors focused on demand for graphics processors used in artificial-intelligence training and data centers. Nvidia’s chips became central hardware for many large AI systems, making the company one of the most valuable businesses in the world.
Apple and Microsoft had reached the same milestone earlier. Nvidia’s achievement was notable because it came from a semiconductor company rather than a consumer-device or general software giant. Its market value rose exceptionally quickly as revenue and earnings expanded.
Nvidia was founded in 1993 and became particularly associated with graphics processing units, or GPUs. Although GPUs were first famous for computer graphics and video games, their parallel-processing capabilities also made them valuable for machine learning. Market capitalization can change rapidly with share prices, so rankings at this level may shift from day to day.
