Nvidia became the fastest company to rise from a $2 trillion to a $3 trillion market capitalization in 2024.
Nvidia reached a $2 trillion valuation in February 2024 and crossed $3 trillion in June 2024, only a few months later. The rapid rise reflected intense demand for its graphics-processing units, which are widely used to train and run artificial-intelligence systems.
Nvidia began as a graphics-chip company, but its CUDA software ecosystem helped make its hardware important for general-purpose parallel computing. Its data-center business subsequently became a major source of revenue, changing how investors viewed the company compared with traditional personal-computer chip makers.
The milestone describes market value, not the physical value of Nvidia’s inventory or the total amount of money it had earned. Nvidia also completed a ten-for-one stock split in June 2024; a split changes the number and price of shares but does not itself create shareholder value.
