Which Chinese dynasty was founded by Liu Bang?

The story behind the answer

The Chinese dynasty founded by Liu Bang was the Han dynasty.

Liu Bang began life as a minor Qin official and became a rebel leader after the Qin dynasty collapsed. During the ensuing Chu–Han Contention, he competed with the powerful warlord Xiang Yu for control of the former Qin realm. Liu Bang’s victory at the Battle of Gaixia in 202 BCE enabled him to reunify much of China and establish the Han state.

He ruled as Emperor Gaozu of Han, choosing Chang’an as the principal capital of the Western Han. The dynasty initially followed the Qin’s centralized administrative foundations but adopted more moderate taxation and labor policies. It later became one of China’s most influential imperial eras, shaping government, scholarship, technology, trade, and cultural identity.

The Han period is usually divided into Western Han and Eastern Han, with the Xin dynasty interrupting Han rule from 9 to 25 CE. The Qin preceded the Han, while the Sui came much later, after the Three Kingdoms, Jin, Northern and Southern Dynasties, and several other regimes. Ming belongs to an even later period.
