Which children’s fantasy series did C.S. Lewis write?
Answer
The Chronicles of Narnia
Answer
The Chronicles of Narnia
C.S. Lewis wrote The Chronicles of Narnia. The series consists of seven fantasy novels set largely in the magical land of Narnia, where talking animals, mythical creatures, and human visitors encounter recurring conflicts between good and evil.
The books were published between 1950 and 1956. The first published volume was The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, which introduced readers to Narnia through a wardrobe discovered by four English children. Lewis later arranged the stories in a different internal chronological order, beginning with The Magician’s Nephew.
The series draws on Greek and Roman mythology, European fairy tales, Christian themes, and Lewis’s own imaginative inventions. Aslan, the great lion, is the central recurring figure. The novels are often called “the Narnia books,” but the complete formal series title is The Chronicles of Narnia.
The series has been adapted for radio, television, stage, and film. It is separate from J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth novels, although Lewis and Tolkien were close friends.
