Which chart genre ranking did Taylor Swift’s “august” enter at number five in 2020?

Taylor Swift’s “august” entered Billboard’s Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart at number five in 2020.

The song debuted and peaked at number five on the genre chart, where it remained for 20 weeks. This result reflects how “august” crossed beyond conventional pop categorization through its guitar textures, atmospheric production, and alternative-leaning album context.

The ranking is separate from the US Billboard Hot 100, where the song peaked at number 23. It is also different from the Global 200, where the song later reached number 46. Confusing these positions is easy because all three charts are frequently cited in summaries of the track.

Folklore’s broad critical classification included indie folk, chamber pop, electro-folk, folk rock, and indie rock. Individual songs did not all fit one strict genre, and “august” was especially associated with dream pop, guitar pop, and soft rock.
