Mayor McCheese was the burger-headed mayor in McDonaldland, McDonald’s fictional advertising world.
The character appeared among the fantasy figures created to promote McDonald’s food and restaurant experience. His design combined a formal mayoral outfit with a large cheeseburger for a head, making the product connection immediate for children.
Mayor McCheese is sometimes confused with Officer Big Mac, another McDonaldland character whose head was shaped like a Big Mac. The two belonged to the same advertising universe but represented different characters and roles.
McDonaldland advertising also included the Hamburglar, Grimace, Captain Crook, and other figures. The campaign helped McDonald’s build a recognizable cast beyond its restaurant sign and product names.
