Bagheera narrates the opening prologue of Disney’s 1967 film The Jungle Book.
The film begins with Bagheera explaining how he discovered the abandoned human baby who would become Mowgli. This narration establishes the central relationship between the panther and the child before the story moves into Mowgli’s life with the wolf pack.
Bagheera is voiced by Sebastian Cabot in the 1967 animated film. He serves as Mowgli’s practical guardian, trying to guide him toward the human village while Baloo encourages a more carefree life in the jungle. Their contrasting approaches create much of the film’s emotional structure.
The prologue is sometimes remembered as an anonymous storyteller’s introduction, but the narrative voice belongs to Bagheera. This is also separate from the 2016 film, which presents the story with a different structure and voice cast. The two adaptations share many names while differing substantially in narration and tone.
