Fungus is Randall Boggs’s assistant in Pixar’s Monsters, Inc.
Fungus works with Randall on the scare floor and becomes an unwilling participant in Randall’s plan to use the Scream Extractor. Randall’s treatment of him shows the villain’s willingness to exploit even his own colleague for an experiment.
Fungus is a small, red, mushroom-like monster. His design contrasts strongly with Randall, a larger purple, lizard-like monster who can camouflage himself. That visual difference helps audiences identify the pair during the busy factory scenes.
Fungus is sometimes confused with Needleman and Smitty, the two workers who operate equipment around the factory. Those characters are company employees, but Fungus is specifically associated with Randall as his assistant.
