Which character is known for constantly insulting David Brent in The Office (UK)?

The story behind the answer

Chris Finch, commonly called “Finchy,” is the character known for constantly insulting David Brent in The Office (UK). He is a Wernham Hogg sales representative and presents himself as David’s best friend, although his crude jokes and mockery repeatedly make David uncomfortable.

Finch is boorish, bullying and aggressively confident. David admires him and tries hard to impress him, but Finch rarely shows genuine respect in return. Their relationship exposes David’s insecurity: he wants approval from someone he considers entertaining and socially successful, even when that person humiliates him in front of colleagues.

Finch appears prominently in the pub-quiz storyline, where he competes against Tim and Ricky. He also plays a role in the first series when David protects him after learning that Finch circulated an embarrassing image of David around the office. Rather than actually confronting his friend, David pretends to make a phone call to fire him.

The Christmas special gives David a rare moment of resolve. When Finch insults Dawn at the office party, David finally tells him to leave. Chris Finch is sometimes confused with Keith Bishop, whose comments can also be cutting, but Keith is quiet and detached; Finch is the loud, bullying friend who targets David directly.
