Puddleglum is the character in The Silver Chair who declares, “I’m on Aslan’s side.”
Puddleglum is a Marsh-wiggle who accompanies Eustace Scrubb and Jill Pole on their quest to find the missing Prince Rilian. He is known for his gloomy predictions, practical courage, and loyalty. Despite expecting the worst, he repeatedly helps the children continue their mission.
The Silver Chair was published in 1953 and is the fourth published novel in The Chronicles of Narnia. In the scene involving the quotation, Puddleglum resists an enchantment that attempts to make the characters deny the reality of Aslan and Narnia. His statement expresses commitment under pressure.
Puddleglum is sometimes confused with other Narnian companions, especially Eustace, who appears in more than one Narnia book. Puddleglum is specifically the Marsh-wiggle from The Silver Chair and does not appear as a central companion in the earlier novels.
