Which character did Beyoncé voice in the 2013 animated film Epic?

The story behind the answer

In the 2013 animated film Epic, Beyoncé voiced Queen Tara.

Queen Tara is the benevolent ruler of the Leafmen, a miniature forest civilization threatened by the villainous Mandrake. The film follows teenager Mary Katherine, or M.K., after she is magically reduced in size and drawn into the conflict between the Leafmen and the Boggans.

Epic was directed by Chris Wedge and produced by Blue Sky Studios, the animation company behind Ice Age and Rio. Beyoncé joined a voice cast that included Amanda Seyfried, Josh Hutcherson, Colin Farrell, Christoph Waltz, and Aziz Ansari.

Queen Tara is sometimes confused with other animated royalty Beyoncé has portrayed or performed around. The character is an original fantasy queen created for Epic, not a historical figure or an adaptation of a Disney princess. The film was released in May 2013 and was inspired in part by William Joyce’s illustrated book The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs.
