Jin Kazama debuted in Tekken 3 as the child of Kazuya Mishima and Jun Kazama.
Tekken 3, released in arcades in 1997, introduced Jin as its central new protagonist. In the story, Jun raises him on Yakushima after the events of the second King of Iron Fist Tournament. Jin inherits the Mishima family connection through Kazuya and the Kazama lineage through Jun.
Jin’s introduction follows a major time jump. Ogre attacks martial artists around the world and eventually targets Jun, leaving Jin to seek help from his grandfather, Heihachi Mishima. Heihachi trains him and uses the threat of Ogre to draw him into the tournament, setting up the game’s main conflict.
A common mix-up is to identify Jin as Heihachi’s direct child. Heihachi is Jin’s grandfather, while Kazuya is his father. Jin also inherited the Devil Gene from Kazuya, a plot element that becomes central to later games and eventually produces the separate Devil Jin form.
