Shoupe originally serves as a deputy under Sheriff Peterkin. After Peterkin’s death, he becomes sheriff of the fictional Kildare County area. Cullen Moss portrays the character and was promoted to series regular for Season 5.

Shoupe’s law-enforcement role places him apart from the Pogues and Kooks, whose conflicts drive much of the series. He is a local authority figure rather than a member of either teenage group.
