Which central bank is the sole issuer of the Serbian dinar?
Answer
National Bank of Serbia
Answer
National Bank of Serbia
The National Bank of Serbia is the sole issuer of the Serbian dinar.
The institution is Serbia’s central bank and is responsible for monetary policy, foreign-exchange reserves, banking supervision, and the stability of the financial system. Its modern legal and institutional role developed after the breakup of Yugoslavia and the re-establishment of Serbia’s independent state institutions.
The National Bank of Serbia issues Serbian banknotes and coins in dinars. It is headquartered in Belgrade, where it also carries out research, payment-system responsibilities, and oversight of the banking sector.
The Serbian dinar has a much older historical name than the present central bank. Earlier Yugoslav monetary authorities issued currencies for predecessor states, so historical sources may mention the National Bank of Yugoslavia. That institution is not the current issuer of Serbia’s national currency.
