Which central bank has its headquarters in Frankfurt and manages monetary policy for the euro area?
Answer
European Central Bank
Answer
European Central Bank
The European Central Bank has its headquarters in Frankfurt and manages monetary policy for the euro area.
The ECB was established in 1998 and began conducting monetary policy for the euro area when euro banknotes and coins entered circulation in 2002. Its primary objective is to maintain price stability, which it pursues through interest-rate decisions and other monetary-policy tools.
The ECB works within the Eurosystem, made up of the ECB and the national central banks of the countries that use the euro. It also belongs to the broader European System of Central Banks, which includes the central banks of all European Union member states, including those outside the euro area.
The ECB is not the same institution as the European Commission or the European Investment Bank. The ECB is a central bank with monetary responsibilities, while the Commission proposes and administers EU policy and the Investment Bank provides financing for projects.
