Which cat breed is named after the Russian region of Siberia?
Answer
Siberian
Answer
Siberian
The Siberian is the cat breed named after the Russian region of Siberia.
The Siberian, also called the Siberian Forest Cat, is a long-haired breed associated with Russia and the cold, forested Siberian region. Its dense coat has a water-resistant outer layer and a substantial undercoat, features that helped cats cope with harsh northern conditions.
Siberians are generally medium to large cats with strong bodies, rounded contours, and tufted ears and paws. They are recognized in many colors and patterns. The breed’s history in Russia predates its organized development in Western cat registries, and it was exported to other countries in the late twentieth century.
The Neva Masquerade is the colorpoint variety associated with the Siberian, not a wholly unrelated long-haired Russian breed. The Russian Blue is also Russian in origin, but it is a short-haired blue breed with a separate history.
