The characteristic eye color of Ragdoll cats is blue.
Ragdolls are a large, semi-long-haired breed developed in California by breeder Ann Baker during the 1960s. Their blue eyes are a defining breed feature, and recognized Ragdolls have blue eyes in varying shades, from pale blue to deep sapphire.
The breed is also known for a colorpoint pattern, meaning the ears, face, legs, and tail are darker than the body. Ragdoll kittens are born white or very pale because the colorpoint pattern develops as they grow.
A common mix-up is assuming every blue-eyed colorpoint cat is a Ragdoll. Other breeds, including Siamese and Birman cats, can also have blue eyes, so eye color alone does not identify the breed. Ragdolls may have several recognized patterns, including colorpoint, mitted, and bicolor, but blue eyes remain a consistent hallmark.
