The Audi R8 has the most Le Mans overall wins by a car model, with five victories. Its winning years were 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2005.
Audi introduced the R8 prototype at Le Mans in 1999, when it finished third. The car then won five of the next six editions, establishing Audi as the dominant manufacturer of the early 2000s. Its victories were achieved by different driver combinations, including Tom Kristensen, Frank Biela and Emanuele Pirro.
The name can cause confusion because Audi later raced the R10 TDI, R15 and R18. The Audi R18 also won four times, but it did not match the R8’s total. Likewise, the Porsche 956 and Ford GT40 each recorded four wins, despite their enormous reputations.
The R8’s five victories were not five consecutive wins: Bentley interrupted the streak in 2003. Audi’s broader constructor record is much larger because several different Audi models contributed to its total.
