Maserati uses a shield containing a trident as its emblem.
The trident was chosen in 1926 and was inspired by the statue of Neptune in Bologna’s Piazza Maggiore. Neptune’s trident was adapted into a clean automotive symbol, linking Maserati with the city where the company was founded and with the power associated with the Roman sea god.
Maserati was established in Bologna in 1914 by the Maserati brothers. The company later moved its headquarters to Modena, another Italian city strongly associated with performance cars. The trident badge usually appears in red and blue or in monochrome versions.
The Maserati emblem is sometimes confused with generic three-pronged symbols. Its identifying combination is the trident inside a shield or oval badge together with Maserati branding.
