What is the name of Rolls-Royce’s winged female mascot used as an emblem?

The story behind the answer

Rolls-Royce’s winged female mascot is called the Spirit of Ecstasy.

The figurine depicts a woman leaning forward with fabric flowing from her arms, creating the impression of wings. It has stood on the radiators of many Rolls-Royce automobiles since the early 20th century and is one of the most recognizable automotive mascots.

The design was developed by sculptor Charles Sykes for Rolls-Royce owner Lord Montagu. The original model was Eleanor Velasco Thornton, Montagu’s secretary and a discreet companion. Sykes initially called the figure the “Spirit of Speed,” but Rolls-Royce later adopted the better-known name Spirit of Ecstasy.

It is often mistakenly called the “Flying Lady,” a popular informal nickname rather than its official name. The mascot has been redesigned several times, including a smaller version for modern vehicles, partly to meet safety and aerodynamic requirements.
