Which capital city is served by Suvarnabhumi Airport?

The story behind the answer

Which capital city is served by Suvarnabhumi Airport? Bangkok is the answer: the airport is Bangkok’s principal international gateway.

Suvarnabhumi Airport, identified by the codes BKK and VTBS, opened on September 28, 2006. It is located in Racha Thewa, in Samut Prakan province, just east of Bangkok’s municipal boundary. Despite being outside the capital proper, it serves the wider Bangkok Metropolitan Region.

The name Suvarnabhumi comes from a Sanskrit term commonly translated as “Golden Land.” The airport replaced Don Mueang as Bangkok’s main international hub, although Don Mueang remains important, especially for low-cost and domestic flights. That two-airport arrangement is the most common source of confusion.

Suvarnabhumi is a major hub for Thai Airways International and Bangkok Airways, with rail, motorway, and public-transport links connecting it to the capital. Its enormous terminal complex and multiple runways make it one of Southeast Asia’s key aviation gateways.
