Answer
Berlin
Which capital city is home to the Brandenburg Gate? Berlin. The Brandenburg Gate is an 18th-century neoclassical monument in Berlin, Germany.
The present gate was built between 1788 and 1791 on the orders of King Frederick William II of Prussia. Architect Carl Gotthard Langhans designed it in a style inspired by the Propylaea, the monumental gateway to the Acropolis of Athens. A bronze quadriga, showing a chariot drawn by four horses, crowns the structure.
The gate originally marked the beginning of the road from Berlin to Brandenburg an der Havel. It later became a powerful symbol of German history. During the Cold War, the Berlin Wall stood nearby and blocked passage through the gate, turning it into an emblem of the city’s division.
After the wall fell in 1989, the Brandenburg Gate became a symbol of reunification. It stands at Pariser Platz, near the Reichstag and the eastern end of the Tiergarten. A common mix-up is calling it a triumphal arch: it resembles one, but it was built as a city gate.
