Which Canadian company stepped in as a CSI co-producer?

The story behind the answer

Which Canadian company stepped in as a CSI co-producer? Alliance Atlantis stepped in as a CSI co-producer.

CSI was initially developed with Touchstone Television involved alongside CBS Productions. Touchstone, a Disney-owned studio, withdrew because it did not want to spend heavily producing a series for another network. CBS then approached Alliance Atlantis, a Canadian media company, to join the project as a co-producer.

The arrangement helped save the series during its development and gave Alliance Atlantis a continuing role in the CSI franchise. Alliance Atlantis had existing business relationships with CBS and experience in Canadian broadcasting, production, distribution, and specialty television services. Its involvement was not the same as being the show's American network: CBS remained the broadcaster in the United States.

Alliance Atlantis is sometimes confused with CTVglobemedia because both were major Canadian media names. They were separate companies. Lionsgate Television and Nelvana were also Canadian-linked entertainment businesses, but neither is the company identified with stepping in to co-produce the original CSI project.
