Intel’s “Intel Inside” campaign made the company’s processor brand visible to ordinary personal-computer buyers.
Launched in 1991, the campaign was unusual because Intel sold microprocessors mainly to computer manufacturers rather than directly to consumers. Its advertising encouraged shoppers to look for the Intel logo when choosing a finished computer, turning an invisible component into a recognizable brand.
Intel supported the campaign with cooperative advertising funds for manufacturers that displayed the logo. The strategy helped create demand for Intel chips from the consumer side of the market and strengthened the company’s negotiating position with computer makers.
The campaign is sometimes mistaken for a product slogan belonging to a specific PC manufacturer. Instead, “Intel Inside” was a component-branding program used across many manufacturers and models.
