The Mosque-Madrasa of Sultan Barquq in Cairo was commissioned by Sultan Barquq and completed in 1386.

The complex was built between 1384 and 1386 during the Burji Mamluk period. It functioned as a mosque, madrasa, mausoleum, and khanqah, reflecting the way major Mamluk religious foundations often combined worship, education, burial, and Sufi practice.

Its architect was Shihab al-Din Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Tuluni. The building occupies a prominent position in Cairo’s Bayn al-Qasrayn district, a historic ceremonial avenue in the medieval city. Its richly decorated stone façade, striped masonry, marble surfaces, and carefully organized courtyard demonstrate the sophistication of Mamluk architecture.

Sultan Barquq was buried in the complex along with members of his family. The monument is sometimes confused with the much larger Mosque-Madrasa of Sultan Hasan, but Sultan Hasan’s complex was built several decades earlier and belongs to a different Mamluk foundation.
