Which browser was formerly named MyIE2?

The story behind the answer

Which browser was formerly named MyIE2? Maxthon.

Maxthon began as MyIE2 in 2002, when developer Ming Jie “Jeff” Chen continued work on MyIE, an open-source modification of Internet Explorer. The browser was renamed Maxthon in 2003, turning the former project name into the brand used today.

The name change did not mean Maxthon was originally an entirely independent rendering technology. Early versions were closely connected to Internet Explorer’s Trident engine, while later releases adopted other technologies. Since Maxthon 6, the browser has been based on Chromium, with Blink providing its modern web-rendering foundation.

A common mix-up is confusing MyIE2 with MyIE, the earlier project on which it was based. The question asks for the browser’s later name, not the name of its predecessor or its underlying engine. Maxthon is therefore the single canonical answer.
