Which browser was developed by Netscape Communications?
Answer
Netscape Navigator
Answer
Netscape Navigator
The browser developed by Netscape Communications was Netscape Navigator.
Netscape Navigator began as a commercial descendant of NCSA Mosaic. Marc Andreessen, one of Mosaic’s lead developers, joined entrepreneur Jim Clark to create Mosaic Communications Corporation in 1994. After a naming dispute with the University of Illinois, the company became Netscape Communications Corporation, and its flagship browser was renamed Netscape Navigator.
The first public release arrived in 1994, and Navigator quickly became the web’s dominant browser during the early consumer Internet boom. It introduced or popularized features such as on-the-fly page rendering, cookies, JavaScript, frames, and browser plug-ins. Navigator was later included in the broader Netscape Communicator suite, although the browser itself retained the Navigator name.
A common mix-up is confusing Netscape Navigator with NCSA Mosaic. Mosaic inspired the project and shared some of its developers, but it was a separate browser created by a different organization. Netscape Navigator also helped establish the browser market that later became the setting for the first browser war with Microsoft Internet Explorer.
