Which browser is developed by Microsoft and replaced Internet Explorer?

The story behind the answer

The browser developed by Microsoft to replace Internet Explorer was Microsoft Edge. Microsoft unveiled Edge, originally developed under the codename Project Spartan, as a new browser for Windows 10 in 2015.

Edge was designed to move Microsoft beyond Internet Explorer’s older architecture and legacy reputation. The original version used Microsoft’s EdgeHTML rendering engine and Chakra JavaScript engine. It became the default browser in Windows 10, although Internet Explorer remained available for compatibility with older websites and corporate intranets.

Microsoft later rebuilt Edge around the open-source Chromium project. The Chromium-based version launched on January 15, 2020, using the Blink rendering engine and Google’s V8 JavaScript engine. This version replaced Edge Legacy, the original 2015 edition, but kept the Microsoft Edge name.

Internet Explorer was not simply renamed Edge: the two were separate products with different engines and interfaces. Edge does include an Internet Explorer mode, allowing organizations to open sites that still depend on legacy web technologies.
