Which browser includes a rewards system using Basic Attention Token?

The story behind the answer

Brave is the browser that includes a rewards system using Basic Attention Token, or BAT.

Brave launched in 2016 as a privacy-focused browser that blocks many advertisements and trackers by default. Its rewards model gives users the option to view privacy-preserving ads delivered through Brave’s own advertising system. In the original design, participating users could receive BAT and share it with publishers or content creators.

BAT is an Ethereum-based cryptocurrency introduced by Brave in 2017. The Brave Rewards system integrated the token in 2018, linking browser advertising with a payment mechanism intended to compensate users and creators more directly. Participation is optional; simply using Brave does not require viewing ads or joining the rewards program.

The main mix-up is that many browsers offer loyalty programs, built-in wallets, or advertising features, but BAT is specifically associated with Brave’s ecosystem. Opera, Vivaldi, and Waterfox do not define their browser rewards systems around Basic Attention Token. The canonical answer is therefore Brave.
