Which British festival was first held in 1970 as the Pilton Pop, Blues & Folk Festival?
Answer
Glastonbury Festival
Answer
Glastonbury Festival
Glastonbury Festival was first held in 1970 as the Pilton Pop, Blues & Folk Festival.
The inaugural event took place at Worthy Farm near Pilton in Somerset on September 19, 1970. It was organized by farmer Michael Eavis, who hosted the festival after being inspired by the Bath Festival of Blues and Progressive Music. The original audience was small by modern standards, and admission included access to free milk from the farm.
The event later developed into one of the world’s best-known music and performing-arts festivals. Its name changed as the festival’s format and scale evolved, eventually becoming Glastonbury Festival.
The first event is sometimes incorrectly called the first modern Glastonbury festival without mentioning its original title. “Pilton Pop, Blues & Folk Festival” is the specific name used for the 1970 edition.
