Which British band has the album "The Queen Is Dead"?

The story behind the answer

The Queen Is Dead is the third studio album by the English alternative band The Smiths.

Released on 16 June 1986 by Rough Trade Records, it followed Meat Is Murder and became one of the defining records of 1980s British alternative music. The album combines Johnny Marr’s jangling, melodic guitar work with Morrissey’s literate, often provocative lyrics and distinctive vocal delivery.

Its songs include “The Queen Is Dead,” “Bigmouth Strikes Again,” “There Is a Light That Never Goes Out” and “Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others.” The record was written largely during a period when Marr and Morrissey worked from Greater Manchester, away from the pressures surrounding the band in London.

The title and lyrics are often interpreted as satirical or politically charged, but the album is broader than a single royal or political statement. It moves between dark humour, romantic longing, alienation and social commentary. The Cure, Happy Mondays and The Stone Roses were contemporaneous British alternative acts, but none released this album.
