Anheuser-Busch InBev acquired SABMiller in 2016 for approximately $100 billion.
SABMiller was one of the world’s largest brewing companies, with roots in South African Breweries and a portfolio that included brands such as Miller, Peroni, and Pilsner Urquell. Anheuser-Busch InBev, commonly known as AB InBev, already owned brands including Budweiser, Stella Artois, and Corona.
AB InBev first announced the proposed takeover in November 2015 after several offers. The transaction was completed in October 2016 following regulatory review. To address competition concerns, SABMiller sold several businesses, including its stake in the MillerCoors joint venture in the United States and certain European brands.
The deal created the world’s largest brewer, but SABMiller did not continue as an independent listed company. It is sometimes confused with Molson Coors because Miller brands became connected with Molson Coors after regulatory divestitures. The final transaction value is often summarized as roughly $100 billion, although the exact value varied with exchange rates and deal terms.
