Igor Thiago missed a penalty in Brentford’s 3–0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the 2026–27 Premier League opener.
Brentford were already in control when Thiago failed to convert from the spot. The miss denied the Bees the chance to finish the opening day top of the table on goal difference, although the team still won comfortably.
Keane Lewis-Potter opened the scoring in the 12th minute after a pass from debutant Mamadou Sangare. Vitaly Janelt then doubled Brentford’s advantage before half-time, and Michael Kayode added the third after the interval.
The penalty miss did not alter the match result, but it is an easy detail to overlook because Brentford’s three goals came from other players. Thiago’s teammates supplied a complete 3–0 victory despite his unsuccessful spot kick.
