Which breed is known for its shaggy gray and white coat and is also called the 'Bobtail'?
Answer
Old English Sheepdog
Answer
Old English Sheepdog
The shaggy gray-and-white breed also called the “Bobtail” is the Old English Sheepdog.
The Old English Sheepdog emerged in England from pastoral herding dogs and became associated with driving livestock. Its most recognizable feature is a long, thick, shaggy coat that can cover the face and eyes. Puppies are commonly black and white, with the coat becoming gray or silver as they mature.
“Bobtail” refers to the breed’s traditional docked tail, not to a separate breed. Historically, tail docking was associated with working dogs and helped create the short-tailed appearance. Today, many Old English Sheepdogs have natural tails because cosmetic docking is restricted or prohibited in numerous countries.
The breed was first exhibited under the name Shepherd’s Dog at a Birmingham show in 1873. The Old English Sheepdog is sometimes confused with the Bearded Collie, Puli, or Komondor because all can have shaggy coats. The Bobtail’s large build, gray-and-white coloring, and distinctive rolling gait make it easier to identify.
