Which Brazilian city features the iconic Sugarloaf Mountain?

The Brazilian city featuring the iconic Sugarloaf Mountain is Rio de Janeiro.

Sugarloaf Mountain, called Pão de Açúcar in Portuguese, stands on a peninsula at the mouth of Guanabara Bay. The granite-and-quartz peak rises about 396 meters above sea level and is one of Rio’s most recognizable landmarks, alongside Christ the Redeemer and Copacabana Beach.

Its rounded, steep-sided form is known as a bornhardt, a type of isolated rock outcrop shaped by long-term weathering and erosion. The name “Sugarloaf” refers to the peak’s resemblance to the traditional conical molds once used to sell refined sugar.

Visitors reach the summit by cable car from the nearby Morro da Urca. The first cable-car line opened in 1912, making the mountain an early major tourist attraction. Brasília is Brazil’s capital, while Salvador and São Paulo are also important cities, but none of them contains Sugarloaf Mountain.
