Maui Jim is known for developing the PolarizedPlus2 lens technology.
The technology is associated with the company’s approach to polarized eyewear, combining glare reduction with lens treatments intended to improve color and visual contrast. Maui Jim built much of its identity around bright, high-glare environments such as beaches and open water.
Polarized lenses work by filtering much of the horizontally oriented light responsible for reflected glare. That makes them especially useful around water, roads, and snow, although polarization does not replace UV protection or correct vision problems.
The name PolarizedPlus2 is a proprietary product term, not a general scientific name for all polarized lenses. Other eyewear companies also sell polarized products, but Maui Jim’s branded technology is particularly central to its public identity.
