Burnin’ is the Bob Marley and the Wailers album that includes “Get Up, Stand Up.”
Released in 1973, Burnin’ was the group’s second album for Island Records. It contains several songs that became central to Marley’s catalog, including “Get Up, Stand Up,” “I Shot the Sheriff,” “Burnin’ and Lootin’,” and “Duppy Conqueror.”
The album is historically important because it was the last Wailers studio album to feature Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer as members of the classic trio with Marley. Tosh and Bunny later pursued successful solo careers, while Marley continued under the name Bob Marley and the Wailers with a changing lineup.
“Get Up, Stand Up” was co-written by Marley and Tosh and became closely associated with calls for human rights and resistance to oppression. Burnin’ is sometimes confused with Catch a Fire because both were released in 1973 and were important early Island albums.
