Bob Marley and the Wailers’ album Burnin’ contains “Get Up, Stand Up” and “I Shot the Sheriff.”
Released in 1973, Burnin’ was the final studio album by the original Wailers lineup of Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and Bunny Wailer. Its songs combine political criticism, spiritual ideas, and social commentary in a style that helped define roots reggae for international listeners.
“Get Up, Stand Up” was co-written by Marley and Peter Tosh and became an enduring protest song. “I Shot the Sheriff” later reached a much larger pop audience through Eric Clapton’s 1974 cover.
Burnin’ is sometimes confused with Catch a Fire, the preceding album that first brought The Wailers major international attention. Catch a Fire was released in 1973 as well, but these two songs belong to Burnin’.
