Which boarding school did Turing attend before Sherborne School?

Before attending Sherborne School, Alan Turing went to Hazelhurst Preparatory School. Turing studied there from January 1922 until 1926, when he moved on to the boarding school in Dorset.

Hazelhurst was an independent preparatory school in the village of Frant, Sussex, now East Sussex. It provided Turing with his early formal education before the more demanding environment of Sherborne. At Sherborne, his strong preference for mathematics and science sometimes clashed with the school’s classical curriculum.

A memorable detail from the transition is that Turing’s first day at Sherborne coincided with the 1926 General Strike. Determined not to miss the start of term, he reportedly cycled about 60 miles from Southampton to the school, stopping overnight at an inn. Hazelhurst is sometimes confused with Sherborne because both were boarding or residential stages in his education, but Hazelhurst came first.
