Which biblical heroine is sometimes linked to Hanukkah?

The story behind the answer

Which biblical heroine is sometimes linked to Hanukkah? Judith is the heroine sometimes linked to Hanukkah.

The Book of Judith tells of a Jewish widow who enters the camp of the Assyrian general Holofernes, gets him drunk, and kills him by beheading him. Her action saves her people from destruction. Although the story is not part of the Hebrew Bible, it became influential in Jewish and Christian tradition.

Judith is connected with Hanukkah through later Jewish interpretation and midrashic tradition. The Book of Judith itself does not mention Hanukkah, but its story was associated with the Hasmonean era and was traditionally read in some communities during the holiday.

A related tradition says Judith fed Holofernes salty cheese, making him thirsty, and then gave him wine. This helped inspire the custom of eating dairy foods during Hanukkah in some Jewish communities. Judith is therefore a traditional or thematic association, not one of the central figures in the historical accounts of the Maccabean Revolt.

Deborah, Ruth, and Esther are also biblical heroines, but their stories are linked primarily with other biblical episodes or festivals.
