“Crazy in Love,” featuring Jay-Z, became Beyoncé’s first number-one solo single in the United States.
The song was released in 2003 as the lead single from Beyoncé’s debut solo album, Dangerously in Love. It combines contemporary R&B and hip-hop with a prominent horn sample from the Chi-Lites’ 1970 song “Are You My Woman (Tell Me So).”
Jay-Z appears as the featured rapper, while Rich Harrison and Beyoncé wrote and produced the track. Its energetic arrangement and repeated horn figure helped establish the song as a defining early hit of Beyoncé’s solo career.
“Crazy in Love” reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and also topped charts in the United Kingdom and Ireland. It won two Grammy Awards in 2004, including Best R&B Song and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. It is distinct from “Drunk in Love,” another Beyoncé and Jay-Z collaboration released a decade later.
