“Crazy in Love,” featuring Jay-Z, was Beyoncé’s first U.S. Billboard Hot 100 number-one single.
Released in 2003, the song served as the lead single from Beyoncé’s debut solo album, Dangerously in Love. Its production prominently uses a horn sample from “Are You My Woman (Tell Me So),” a 1970 song by the Chicago funk group the Chi-Lites.
Jay-Z contributes a rap verse, making the recording an early major collaboration between the two artists. They later married, but the song was released before their 2008 wedding. The video’s choreography and fashion became closely associated with Beyoncé’s early solo image.
“Crazy in Love” is sometimes confused with “Single Ladies,” another signature Beyoncé hit. However, “Single Ladies” came later and was not her first U.S. chart-topper. “Crazy in Love” won two Grammy Awards in 2004.
