Which Beyoncé song features Jay-Z and became her first U.S. number-one single?

The story behind the answer

“Crazy in Love” features Jay-Z and became Beyoncé’s first U.S. number-one single.

Released in 2003 as the lead single from Dangerously in Love, “Crazy in Love” combines Beyoncé’s vocal performance with a guest rap from Jay-Z. The production, led by Rich Harrison, prominently uses a horn sample from the Chi-Lites’ 1970 song “Are You My Woman (Tell Me So).”

The song topped the Billboard Hot 100 for eight weeks and helped define Beyoncé’s transition from Destiny’s Child member to solo star. Its music video, featuring sharply choreographed movement and a memorable dance sequence, became closely associated with the song’s success.

“Drunk in Love” is another Beyoncé-Jay-Z collaboration, but it belongs to the 2013 album Beyoncé. That later song should not be confused with Beyoncé’s first solo number-one hit.
