Beyoncé voiced Nala in the 2019 remake of The Lion King.
The film was directed by Jon Favreau and produced by Walt Disney Pictures as a photorealistic computer-animated reimagining of Disney’s 1994 animated film. Nala is a lioness from the Pride Lands who is Simba’s childhood friend and later becomes his mate and queen.
Beyoncé joined a cast that included Donald Glover as Simba, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, and Alfre Woodard as Sarabi. Her participation was publicized as part of a major ensemble that combined film actors, musicians, and returning performers.
Beyoncé also contributed the original song “Spirit” to the film’s soundtrack. The song appeared in the end credits and was connected to the companion album The Lion King: The Gift, which she curated. Nala is sometimes confused with Sarabi, Simba’s mother, but Sarabi was voiced by Alfre Woodard in the 2019 film.
