Lemonade is the Beyoncé album accompanied by the film-length visual project of the same name.
Released on April 23, 2016, Lemonade followed a one-hour HBO film that premiered the same day. The album combines pop, R&B, rock, country, blues, and hip-hop elements, creating a broad musical portrait rather than a single-genre release.
Its songs address themes including betrayal, grief, anger, reconciliation, and Black identity. The visual film uses poetry, music, and imagery connected to African American history and culture. Jay-Z appears on “Family Feud,” while “Daddy Lessons” later received a widely noted live performance with the Chicks at the 2016 Country Music Association Awards.
Lemonade debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and received a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year. It is distinct from Beyoncé’s 2013 self-titled visual album, which was released without a preceding television film.
